The Power of Love
Throughout the years, hundreds of songs have been written on the power and concept of love. In this article I’m not speaking to the romantic type of love, but that love you feel for your child, a friend or perhaps a relative. This is the type of love that binds people together, and allows us to overlook the nonsense things that we all tend to do from time-to-time. Over the past few years, I’ve made a conscious effort to research and study love, and I thought I should share my findings with you.
Love is a concept that is completely natural for all animals. We see it when a mother exhibits extraordinary measures to protect their child, or a father is willing to give their life to provide food and shelter for his family. This type of love is natural, and occurs without training. This same type of love extends to overlooking mistakes or granting forgiveness when a misfortune happens.
I can’t have this conversation without considering a little bit of scripture. In 1 Corinthians 13: 4 – 8, it states, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.” The point of my discussion on love is to get you to understand that love causes you to forgive a person, including yourself when you fail, or make a mistake. It also allows you to give a person another opportunity when they mess up! If you are not willing to forgive, then you must question your love for that person. Are your feelings really genuine? While you may never forget the hurt or harm they caused, love has a way of keeping the light on and welcome sign lit so you continually embrace that person, regardless of their failures. Love gives you the chance for multiple do-overs.
This does not mean that you don’t get pissed-off or frustrated by that individual’s shenanigans, but because of your love for that person, you tolerate their shortcomings and help them to heal. The wellness you seek is purely for their good, not necessarily yours. Change cannot occur unless that person wants to change. Each day we have the opportunity to improve on the mistakes made from the previous day. This requires a conscious effort, and a complete dedication to that change. You cannot do the same thing over and over again, and expect change.
Real love welcomes change, even if it’s hard. Love has a way of making you look for the strategic way of doing business and not just some quick, temporary solution. Sustaining love welcomes and embraces tremendous growth in all parts of your life. When you don’t allow yourself to love, is the day you begin to start dying. Love is for the living, and if you want to keep on living, then you must start loving, and keep on loving.
When you meet someone, who is negative all the time, and is overly critical to those people closes to them, it’s typically because there is little to no love in their life. The remedy for this person is to find someone to love. Love does not allow you to judge people. It’s accepting of individuals, just as they are. It openly welcomes diversity, and realizes there’s strength and power by investing in people that are different. Love can take you to a whole new level of understanding the world around you. Start your day out by loving deeper, and harder than you ever did before. Love is the key to the world’s problems. If we had more love in the world, I guarantee things would be a whole lot better. This is the power of love!
