A Continuum of Service

Garnetta Brown, a retired police officer and a Las Vegas resident for over 27 years, is the owner of R & G Securities (www.rgsecurities702.com).  She has never wavered in her beliefs to serve, protect and contribute to her community, even after retiring in 2013.

Ms. Brown, a former North Las Vegas Training Officer and veteran, took her oath beyond the call of duty when a massive layoff occurred in North Las Vegas in 2013. She saw her colleagues, friends and fellow officers lose their jobs. North Las Vegas’s own were released from duty and had to succumb to the harsh reality of unemployment and the financial burdens to take care of themselves and their families.

Although retiring was something Ms. Brown was prepared to do, young officers and career police officials were not ready. When the North Las Vegas Facility shut down, it left a dint of professionals unable to provide for their families and protect their community in the industry in which they found great pride and responsibility. This didn’t sit well with Mrs. Brown and she decided to do something about it.

Naturally, building a security company was the obvious solution; she had qualified officers with special skills and the experience to protect private and public sector clients, as well the Las Vegas community at large. It was important to her for them to have wages that would allow a sustainable lifestyle. Nothing brought Ms. Brown as much joy as knowing she could employ her peers and newly laid-off officers.

When Ms. Brown went to get her private investigative license, there were just a handful of people of color; she was the only woman. As a pillar of the community, she understood how important it is that the officers that serve the community also reflect the communities they serve. She made sure her roster was diverse, with all backgrounds and genders. She anticipated the use of female officers for special projects like sex trafficking victims, and the need to have protection that was for special clients who needed security to blend in.

R & G Securities is a private security company that provides customized security needs for varied activities, events and businesses whose goal is to keep important people, property and environments safe. Today her company has established contracts with grocery chains like Vons and Albertsons; she plans to expand.

What sets R & G Security apart is how they develop a customized plan, as well as implementing strategic design protocols for each company’s unique needs. Her company helps individual and corporate clients from preventable loss/theft, mob fans for celebrities, security presence for family reunions and large commercial clients like chain stores. They use only highly trained private officers that have extensive training and an incomparable skillset.

The best aspect of her company:  you will speak directly to qualified licensed management and/or head chief in charge and get an in-depth breakdown based on the clients’ specific needs and requests.

So instead of simply assigning a guard to walk perimeters, her company will walk through the site, point out blind spots, assess camera shots, detail the most vulnerable areas and pre-plan routes, alternative routes and contingencies.

This assures the client that they are clear and prepared for any escalation that could occur and can focus on the business, event or activity they are attending.

“They also assure clients that they will assign officers with the appropriate background, skill and experience and the clients don’t have to worry because now they can leave all of their security and safety issues with R & G Securities,” Garnetta announced during her interview.

In addition, they work with the clients’ existing security team, local police (if applicable) to establish measures to provide their clients with the most effective protection.

It’s important to note, there are only a few of these licenses allowed in Nevada, and not any black women in this space that hold a Private Investigation License. In this male-dominated industry that caters to men, she is one of the very few who hold these licenses.

If someone has security needs, considering the care and attention to detail R & G Securities is known for, it would be a great business to check out first. The staff, the officers and management are devoted to their clients and take extra consideration to be thorough. You can learn more about them at: www.RGSecurities702.com

Additionally, Ms. Brown has stepped up throughout her career to help her community. She initiated several successful programs that bridged the gap between at-risk youth and the imminent consequences of jail time by intervention programs.

These intervention programs, “Keep it Real” (like a “Scared Straight” program) took youth and showed them the serious consequences of their actions and developed character skills to prevent criminal actions in the future.  “For the youth who already broke the law, they were given a second chance,” Ms. Brown explained.

The other initiative Ms. Brown created, the “Community Courts” program, where she, alongside Honorable Judge Kalani Hoo, helps expunge felony charges by helping community members who need additional support and a chance to assist at-risk youth, instead of going to jail and getting a felony; they would go through a program that would intervene and provide a solution and identify the cause for them getting off track in the first place.

Mrs. Brown devoted 27 years in law enforcement; she isn’t new to innovating programs that help our Nevada community. As a business owner who started a private security company to provide safety and security to her clients, employment to her fellow officer, and protection for Nevada residents, she is only continuing her promise:  To serve and protect her community.
