Improving Education

I believe a systemic change in thinking and ideology is necessary to make meaningful and measurable improvements for African-American students. That means implementing a whole-child approach to K-12 education instead of the standardized, data-driven approach we’ve all become accustomed to.

There are better ways to deliver education that still demands academic rigor from all students, but includes and values social-emotional learning, the arts, physical activity, and personal character development. And, of course, because data continuously proves the importance of representation, we need to hire more (especially male) African-American educators and administrators.

If elected to the Nevada Board of Education, I would have the unique opportunity to be the linchpin between local school boards and state legislatures to streamline initiatives and policies that improve education for African-American students.
