CANDIDATE PROFILE: Mary Kay Holthus, Esq.

I was elected to the Eighth Judicial District Court in Department 18 in 2018. I am running to retain my seat as a trial judge. I have been an attorney in Clark County for over 30 years. For two years, I was a civil litigation attorney. For 27 years, I was a trial lawyer in the DA’s office. I did approximately 150 jury trials. I spent 16 of those 27 years on the Special Victim’s Unit, giving a voice to women and children and seeking justice for victims of sexual assault, child abuse and domestic violence. In court nearly every day, I have handled thousands of cases — from misdemeanors to murders. I have the experience to balance justice for victims and fairness to accused, and to recognize the difference between career criminals who warrant incarceration, and offenders who are more appropriately handled in diversionary/treatment programs or alternative sentencing, resulting in a longer term solution for the individual as well as the community.

My husband, Brian, and I have raised 3 children in Las Vegas. I believe in law and order and keeping our communities safe. I also believe in families and those who are working to support them. Since being elected judge, I handle a split docket of criminal/civil calendars, handling all types of criminal and civil matters, and I have had several jury and bench trials, both civil and criminal. I have worked extremely hard to be the best judge I can be. I am a career public servant. For 30 years, my only client has been justice, and I look forward to continuing to serve and keep our community a safe place to live.
