Count on Me! US Census Impacts Lives for a Decade

What if I told you that you could positively impact your life and the life of your children for the next ten years? What if I informed you that you have power to influence the dollars that your community receives for education and healthcare for the next decade? Well today, you can make that impact and you have that power. Use it. The U.S. Census is your opportunity to change lives for yourself and for other Nevadans.

The Census is a Constitutionally mandated count of every person who lives in the United States and its territories that happens every 10 years. Starting March 12, 2020, all American residents will be asked to count everyone who lives in their home as of April 1, 2020. The results of the census help to decide how more than $800 billion in federal funds are distributed to states and communities each year. These funds help pay for roads, schools, hospitals and health clinics, emergency services, and much more. These funds are only reallocated every 10 years based on the results of the Census. We will not have another opportunity until 2030. Nevadans need to understand that funds will be allocated to another state if they decide not to be counted. For every person not counted, the state loses approximately $2100 per year for every person not counted, for the next 10 years. If there is just a one percent undercount, the state will lose $60 million per year, or up to $600 million over the decade.

The 2020 Census is safe! Census data is confidential; your responses are protected by law (Title 13 of the US Code). Each US Census Bureau employee is sworn in to protect census information for life. Census data is used for statistical purposes only and always reported in the aggregate, meaning grouped information and not individual information.

It’s easier to take the Census than ever before! You can respond to the 2020 Census online, by mail, and by phone starting March 12. The Census is now available in more than 50 languages, and in 13 languages online. Visit 2020census.gov for more information!

You are invited to a very special Census 2020 Kick Off on March 12th at the Clark County Government Center, 500 Grand Central Parkway from 9 am to noon. There will be entertainment, food, and fun. More importantly, there will be an opportunity for you to complete the Census onsite!
