Southern Nevada Water Authority
The Southern Nevada Water Authority
In 1991, seven local water and wastewater agencies formed the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) to address water issues on a regional basis. Today, these member agencies – Big Bend Water District (Laughlin); the cities of Boulder City, Henderson, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas; the Clark County Water Reclamation District; and the Las Vegas Valley Water District – serve more than two million Southern Nevada residents. As the wholesale water provider, SNWA is responsible for water treatment and delivery in Southern Nevada, as well as acquiring and managing long-term water resources. Then, as now, SNWA remains committed to providing world-class water service in a sustainable adaptive, and responsible manner to our customers through reliable, cost-effective systems.
Water conservation is a critical component of Southern Nevada’s long-term water resource plan. When drought conditions hit in the early 2000s, the SNWA responded by implementing one of the nation’s most progressive and comprehensive conservation programs. It included partnering with developers on water-efficient home design, working with municipalities and homeowners associations to remove useless grass, enforcing watering schedules and wastewater ordinances and offering consumer rebates to convert to water-smart landscaping and upgrade to water-efficient technologies. Our community has saved hundreds of billions of gallons of water, as a result. SNWA continues to lead the nation in water conservation programming.
